Local Public Law

The study of Local Public Law as a major subject is possible in Finland only at the University of Tampere. As a subject of study, Local Public Law contains various sets of norms regulating core service functions as regards citizens and their relations to practical phenomena. Focal areas in the teaching of Local Public Law are the legal provisions governing the position of the municipality, its functions and actions, and the specific fields of municipal activity (social and health care, teaching, construction etc.). In addition to teaching these norms, which are currently under a profound change, there are other interesting aspects now gaining in significance, such as Contract Law, Labour Law and European Law. The objective is to provide students with the necessary basic understanding in comprehending changes in the norms and to provide the means to excel in various tasks by taking into consideration, for example, different legal principles, good administrative practice, the principle of service and the demands of legal security.
