General description

The aim of the module is to practise the skills needed project work, including the language and culture of meetings and written correspondence.

Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be able to
- understand the different cultural conventions governing meetings
- participate efficiently in the different stages of the meeting process
- produce the written documents associated with meetings and projects
- produce and present a project proposal in spoken and written form
- communicate using different channels of communication (e.g. email, business letters)
- present data in various forms, including in visual form

Contents

The course will cover the language used in the meeting process, leadership and managing conflict as well as the structure and linguistic features of meetings and project related texts, including agendas, minutes, proposals and reports. The module will also include the conventions applying to the writing of email messages and business letters, and the presentation of charts and graphs.

Teaching methods

The average student workload for a 2 credit course is 54 hours (2 x 27). The distribution of hours between classwork, online work and other independent work will vary.
