Learning outcomes

After completing the course, student has the basic understanding of Russian and Soviet political history from the early modern era to the present. The student knows about the formation of the Russian state and understands the continueties and ruptures during the given period. Moreover, the student is able to contextualise Russia and its past within the broader European and world history.

Contents

The course provides a basic understanding of the political and social history of Russia and the Soviet Union. It further provides tools for deepening the understanding of particular questions regarding Russian and Soviet history. The history module focuses on the interplay of the Russian state and society, as well as on the modernisation processes in Russia/Soviet Union.
