Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will have a thorough understanding of the special features of conference interpreting and will be able to apply the knowledge in practice. The student will be able to plan the interpreting services for a multilingual conference, assemble an interpreting team, and ensure the functionality of the interpreting services. The student will also be able to advise and guide the client on aspects concerning the interpreting services of a multilingual conference and on the conditions for successful interpreting. The student will be able to act professionally and collegially in changing conference situations.

The course unit includes a practice conference. This provides the student with a possibility to learn how to plan interpreting services for a multilingual conference and how to act as a speaker and an interpreter in a conference. In addition, the course unit seeks to teach how to guide the organisers of a conference with interpreting services, as far as possible, and how to act as an interpreter in a real-life conference situation.
