Learning outcomes

Upon completing the course the students can analyse the political economy of emerging powers in wider Europe and Asia against the structure of existing international institutions and major powers. The students also develop advanced knowledge of one such emerging actor. The students discern the resource based, financial, institutional and other dimensions of the structural change underpinning the emergence of new powers in wider Europe and Asia, including Turkey, Russia, China, India and others.

Contents

The structure of existing international institutions and major powers; political economy of emerging powers in wider Europe and Asia; Turkey, Russia, China, India, EU and Japan as case studies; interdisciplinary approaches to international political economy; the interrelationships of natural resources, connectivity, finance and institutions in international political economy.
