Learning outcomes

Having done this module, the student has a broad, historically and socially sensitive, understanding of research that deals with media, culture and communication. She/he identifies the particularities of main scholarly directions in the field and recognizes their key interfaces and issues of shared interest. The student is able to assess how the research traditions connect with the economic and technological conditions of their time.

Contents

Teaching in the module contextualizes the diversity of research on media, culture and communication by illuminating paradigm changes in the field and by analyzing how these changes relate to broader societal developments. Major focus is on the concepts, themes and approaches that provide fruitful intersections for the study of communication and interaction in a post-industrial and increasingly technologically mediated world.
