General description

The course covers issues related to child ealth in the global context.

Learning outcomes

After the successful completion of the course, the students will
• know the main determinants and global epidemiology of child health
• have skills to plan, implement and assess interventions to promote child health in various environments.
• be better able to appraise scientific literature and to make oral presentations


• The UN declaration and convention of children’s rights and other major international treaties to promote child well-being
• Historical trends in the social status and well-being of children
• Current distribution of child health in the global context
• Patterns of normal childhood growth and development
• Global challenges in perinatal and neonatal health
• Childhood nutrition: requirements, recommendations, and nutritional problems among children and adolescents in high- and low-income countries
• Global epidemiology of selected infectious diseases in childhood
• Global epidemiology of asthma and allergic diseases in childhood
• Special issues in adolescent health
• Children in difficult circumstances
• Major international initiatives to improve global child health and organizations working in the field
