Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course unit, the student will be able to identify the genres of Shakespearean drama and their key characteristics. In addition, the student will be able to illustrate these properties through textual analysis. The student will be able to interpret Shakespeare's plays in their original cultural contexts. Furthermore, the student will understand how the plays have been reinterpreted time and again worldwide and why new adaptations are still being produced.

Contents

Four plays will be analysed during the course, representing the four genres of drama: tragedy, comedy, history, and romance.
