To introduce students to the concept of “Modernism”, and the central literary texts, themes and genres of the period. To further improve academic, theory-based ways of reading.
Contents
An overview of British and Irish literature from the beginning of the twentieth century to the present in its historical, cultural and social contexts, with special emphasis on Modernism and Postmodernism, through the reading of a selection of representative texts. Classes include lectures and follow-up tutorials, with small-group work based on the study materials.
