This one week orientation course is offered jointly for all international students (degree and exchange) at the beginning of the Autumn and Spring semesters. It is most important for you to take part in it.
On the first day of the Orientation, a session on how to fill in the registration papers is offered. During the week you will get information on studies and study practices as well as library, computer and other systems and services at the University of Tampere. You will also learn about Finnish customs and the history of the City of Tampere. A bus tour around the city is also included.
The Orientation Week programme will be published in the summer 2014.

Corporate finance approached from an economic and behavioral perspective; An emphasis on specific standard corporate textbook questions considered unanswered.
The course will examine the elements of business models and explore how they differ across industries and the phases of a firm’s growth. The emphasis will be on a holistic approach to business models and earnings principles including strategy, marketing and branding, operations and supply chain, HRM, innovation and finance. However, the above functional divisions are often not found in small businesses. Instead managers need to be flexible and able to cope with the complexity and ambiguity of operating within a contemporary and dynamic context. This course aims also to encourage students to widen their knowledge of business know-how in the context of small business.

The impact of limits to arbitrage and investor psychology on investor decision-making and investment pricing; The interplay between human cognitive limitations/errors and limits to arbitrage; Issues and limits concerning both the “efficient markets” and “behavioral” approaches.
-Fundaments of key legal business law issues. General principles of contract law, especially concerning contracting and negotiations in international context.
-Key principles of Corporate Governance and limited liability companies.
-Basic concepts of international tax law.
-Managing the legal risks of taxation and tax planning and tax-related risks in cross-border business.
Course is mainly meant for students of Master's Degree Programme in Business Competence. Exchange students (and only master level exchange students) can be chosen only exceptionally.
The requirements for the course have changed. There will be no lectures. The course will be a written exam. The exam will be based on the book John Hull: “Risk Management and Financial Institutions” and will be done using University’s electronic examination system. The exam will become available in end of April. The exact dates will be communicated later.
Max 20 students. Pre-enrolment by e-mail. Deadline for enrolments is 12th March. The students will be selected to the course in order of enrolment.
